Method of obtaining useful data to predict the vertical transmission of hepatitis c
Development of a method for predicting or forecasting the risk of a mother with
the Hepatitis C virus, to transmit it vertically to her offspring.
Vertical transmission means the transmission of any infectious
agent from mother to child in utero, at birth or in the postnatal period or by breastfeeding or by intimate contact between mother and child. Agents capable of being transmitted in utero
have capacity to produce chorioamnionitis and impaired
placental barrier interacting with abortions or malformations.
For hepatitis B and C the time of maximum risk is childbirth. The diagnosis of infection in children is by the presence of HCV RNA positive in at least two consecutive blood samples or the presence of anti-HCV positive after 18 months.
